![]() " May 9 - For weeks our drills have been the same crap day after day.Several times throughout the day I spotted him just watching me during training. He looked more like a lawyer or insurance agent to me. I am not sure he is a g-man, but he was wearing a really uptight suit and carrying a briefcase. " May 7 - I finally saw the government guy today. It would be cool just for the change and the adventure." Rumor is he's from some government branch looking to recruit others say he's with some secret research group. There has been this really weird civie spotted at the base. ![]() I'll be glad when this is over and I can finally can get assigned a mission. " May 3 - Another typically hellish day at base camp.Since May was incorrectly changed to March, it is corrected here. The Opposing Force instruction manual features several diary entries made by Adrian Shephard prior to the Black Mesa Incident, giving some insight of his Advanced Training before the disaster and G-Man's interest in him. The server kept starting with max players = 2 regardless what I entered in the user interface.Biography Background Shephard's diary entries When I used the dedicated server, it ignored "Max. For whatever reason, when you run the game using the dedicated server, it remembers you performed the action and you can proceed with the game without falling into the infinite map loop. With the listen server, the game "forgets" you've performed the action, so it puts you into an infinite loop consisting of teleport1 -> teleport2 -> power1 -> power2 -> teleport2 -> power1 -> power2 -> teleport2 -> power1, etc.Īfter Googling this problem, I found that using the dedicated server fixed it. When the action in ba_power2 is performed, ba_teleport2 is scripted in such a way that allows you to proceed to ba_outro. Teleport1 -> teleport2 -> power1 -> power2 (perform action) -> teleport2 -> outro For example, with ba_teleport2 the sequence goes: Without the changed scripting, there's no way to proceed with the game.įor some reason, when you use the Listen Server, the game "forgets" that you've performed the action. Once the action is performed, the scripting is different. With these maps, you need to perform an action in another map and then return to these maps. Specifically, this happens with maps ba_yard3 / ba_yard4, and ba_teleport2. There are two places in Blue Shift where you return to a map you previously played. Why am I mentioning this in a guide on Opposing Force and Blue Shift in Sven Co-op? Because of map continuity. When doing this, you have to search for your server on the list of internet servers, and you connect that way. The dedicated server is different in that you start an external executable, named svends.exe, and THEN you run Sven Co-op (named svencoop.exe).If you run Sven Co-op and run "Start a new game", you're using a listen server. You run the game, and within the game you create a server. The "listen server" is a combined "server / client".I'm not 100% sure of the difference, but I think it amounts to this: ![]() There are two ways to serve a Sven Co-op game: Using the "listen server" and the "dedicated server". ![]() That information is stored in the map's corresponding cfg file (you can also edit this file to change your starting ammo/weapon load-up). It's better that way.Įach map "knows" what the next map should be, so you don't have to keep track of which map you're on and which to load next. Moral to the story: Everyone should just buy a copy of Opposing Force and follow the instructions of this guide. There are maps that are so short that if you did start to play immediately while your friends are downloading maps, you can easily finish the map before they connect! If you want to be polite you just sit and wait, waiting for your friend to connect. Unfortunately, people can play immediately once they enter the game, so that means the host can start playing right away. So you see, it can be a pretty painful wait if you have far away players. We both have high speed internet connections. A friend in Tokyo has to wait about 2 minutes for a typical Opposing Force map to download before he can play.
